The play moves the setting to the current era
Synopsis
The Jackal is an elusive killer who makes his living performing hits for the highest pay. He soon meets his match in the form of a tough British intelligence officer who tracks him down on a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe. The novel “Day of the Jackal” was set in 1963 and revolved around the attempted assassination of then French President Charles de Gaulle.
A remake of The Day of the Jackal (1973)
I like what they have tried to do. How does a killer remain anonymous and untraceable in today’s world of security cameras, camera phones and social media, the internet and facial recognition, communications surveillance, digital transactions, etc. The attempt is incomplete, but please name me any show or movie that has stuck and I’ll watch it right away.
There’s a lot to like about every episode
However, the telling of the main story is disrupted by the inclusion of the M16 agent’s family drama, which feels like filler thrown in to satisfy the “principle” of formulaic scenarios. I skip these unnecessary scenes to keep the main plot lines moving at the same pace. I’m in the middle of episode 4 and appreciate the effort and intent.
And I’ll watch anything with Charles dancing
Plus, loving the neck scarf, nods to the original film and the sniper rifle update, the suspension of disbelief to 11 that this passes through airport x-ray screening, let alone the magical sonic suppressor and no one can. to smell a recently used firearm 🙂 Shh…no mention of bullets. Imperfect anyway, but I’ll watch to the end and appreciate the effort, and I’ll be interested in the choices they make to tell a compelling story.
Finding him in this was a bonus
